INSTRUCTIONS

TASK 2 -   Art Asset Development 

We were tasked with producing the art assets for our game. This includes characters, environment, items, props, obstacles, power-ups, and HUD design.

Task Planning

After task 1, we decided on how to split the asset workload evenly. Tracy will be working on the UI and background, Velicia will be working on the enemies' animation, and I will be working on the animation for the Main Character, animation of the NPCs, and the UI and sprite for the visual novel. Along the way I also assist on guiding them to the directions for the designs.

My task to do:

  • Animation for Main Character (Maythem)
  • Animation for NPCs (Mao & Sildrate)
  • UI and Sprite for the character in a visual novel style
  • Assist and guide the team 🎉


Animation for Maythem

Everything was drawn on my tablet, using an app called Ibist Paint.

Since Maythem is an OC (original character) I made a long time ago, I have a reference of his design ready. So I just drew him in a more chibi style.

After I got his style down, I start to sketch out the sprite frames for each action and put them together into a video editing app to make sure the moves look fine. 

When all the sketches for the pose are finished, I start to draw and render May.

To save energy and time, I reused the same head and face layers. Only have to do some minor adjustments on the positions and the facial expressions.

Animation for Mao & Sildrate

Both Mao and Sildrate are created based on Lobotomy Corporation and in that game there is a customization option when hiring an employee, and so there is where these two came from. In other words I also have their design ready as well. 

Mao & Sildrate

The two will have two types of Idle animation. One is their sketch version, another is their fully rendered version. At first their sketch idle animation is just a digital sketch, but seeing that Velicia had added a paper texture to the enemies' sketch form, I decided to implement it to Mao and Sildrate as well. 

As for their rendered idle animation, rather than just the same 3 frames looping, I added some additional in-between frames to make them feel more alive. (like eye closing, a short pause because continuing)

Visual Novel

We plan on having a story present like a visual novel for the game, but this is if we are able to actually successfully make it. If the main game functions properly, then we will add the visual novel style story in. If that is the case, it would look like something like this:
