REFLECTION

Throughout the 14 weeks, I have learned how much work has to be put in for typography. The TGC I learned is the Lifelong Learning. Most part of this was learning through the YouTube video given by the lecture and asking for feedback from them. There are many ups and downs, sometimes things go well while sometimes it doesn't.

Task 1 Exercise 1 taught me how expressive letters can be by how they are presented. This task was enjoyable and I learned how even without distorting the letter can still be efficient. However, I can't say the same for Exercise 2 and Task 2. They are about kerning which is quite frustrating to do. One sentence would look good but another would be affected, it is a non-stop backtracking. I had the most fun with Task 3. Task 3 we have to design a font which I actually had wanted to do for a while now. Some parts were also a little frustrating, like when some letters look wider compared to others even though they are the exact same width. I also learned that some letters are actually different in size despite them looking identical to others, (like how 'I' is the thinnest letter of all other letters, I thought it had the same width as 'T').

Overall the experience taught me a lot about the subject. It opened my eyes to the detail put into designing font and kerning in books and other places.
